WELCOME to the
ADVENTURE

Course Syllabus 2023/24

World Literature & Composition 10

Greetings Sophomores!

Welcome to your new home for adventure. This classroom is where we will enter many worlds: new, old, and imagined. It's the place where we learn to speak with our hearts, minds, and erasers. We will meet new people: new and fictional, fantastical and "normal."

Welcome to English with Mrs. Wallace!

I'm so happy to be working with you this year!

Right off the bat, I want to let you know where I stand in my teaching philosophy.  I think I owe it to you to tell you the ways in which I plan to provide you with the best and most interesting learning opportunities that I can:

  • I believe in DISCOVERY.

  • I believe in making our course important to YOUR LIVES.

  • I believe in open, candid COMMUNICATION.

  • I believe learning is a continuous PROCESS.

  • I believe in building RELATIONSHIPS.

I believe in YOU…the generation that will face a world of challenges.

Course Objectives

This year you will build on the skills you began to acquire in English 1 and prepare you for the rest of your high school career. We will read fiction, nonfiction, poetry, and plays, and watch movies. We will write creatively, argumentatively, and persuasively. We will speak in whole class and small group discussions as well as class presentations. This class is designed to increase your reading, writing, and speaking skills while focusing on the various aspects of literature worldwide. This course is also heavily based upon further development of critical thinking skills and literary and rhetorical analysis.
