Can I go to the bathroom?

Is it the first 10 minutes of class? Is it the last 10 minutes of class? Am I teaching? Is a classmate giving a presentation? If you can answer NO to these questions, the YES you may go to the bathroom. Sign out on the clipboard, take the pass, and leave your phone. You have 5 minutes. No more. Remember to sign back in when you return.

Can I turn this in late?

Homework is NOT accepted late . . . EVER. Why? Well, homework is intended to be a practice for what we did in class that day. Doing homework days later isn't useful to you, and it certainly isn't useful to me.

This might sound harsh, but this is how it is. Your assessments and class assignments are much more important and a much better indication of your strengths and struggles, so we put much more weight on those assignments.

Homework is also intended to give you extra time to finish a class assignment when you run out of time in class. You may need more time because it was difficult for you. You may need more time because you chose to socialize in class rather than complete the assignment.

All class assignments and assessments submitted ON TIME are eligible for one revision. So, if you turn in an assignment on time that meets all the requirements, and get a grade you're not satisfied with, you will be given the option to revise by a deadline, no questions asked.

If you are absent from class it is your responsibility to get your make-up work and complete it within the number of days you were absent. It is your responsibility to arrange a time with me to make up any tests or quizzes. This must also be completed within the number of days you were absent. Waiting to ask about make-up work days or weeks past the deadline or even at the end of the quarter is unacceptable and will result in 0%.

If your assignments are TURNED IN LATE, they will be accepted up to 3 days after the due date for a grade no higher than 80%, and you forfeit the right to revise. After 3 days, late assignments are 0%. This means the grade you earn is the grade you keep. End of story.

Did I miss anything while I was absent?

Nope. We sat around and talked about how much we missed you.

Okay, seriously, of course, we did stuff while you were gone. Before you come to talk to me, here's what you need to do:

  1. Check Canvas. All of the modules are arranged by date. Check for the date you were absent. Do the work assigned.

  2. Check the Calendar on Canvas. It's also dated.

  3. Check the Were You Absent bin in class. It contains worksheets that we did and are not accessible on Canvas.

  4. Check with a classmate for clarification. Even though you weren't here, someone else was.

  5. Attempt to complete the missed work - WITHOUT ASKING ME WHAT IT IS. If you attempted it and are still stuck, see me after class with the assignment that you've been trying to do with your specific questions.

DO NOT, AND I REPEAT, DO NOT say "I don't get it" without checking with a classmate and making an attempt. I'm happy to help once you've tried to do the assignment first!

When is this assignment due?

Check Canvas.

Am I allowed to use my phone?

Nope. Phones snould be in your locker or in the phone caddy during class. We both know that your phone is 98% distraction and 2% productive. Check yourself and check your addiction level - let's figure out some positive ways to help you curb that compulsive need to constantly check your phone.

Quietly and without making a scene or disrupting class, grab a seat near an outlet and plug in. Once and awhile, this is okay, but if it becomes a regular habit, you'll need to start doing everything in class by hand and then completing the assignments later on your own time on your Chromebook. Charge it every night before you go to bed.

What do I do if my Chromebook needs charged?

Can I get some extra credit?

Nope. But you can revise assessments during the current unit. Check Canvas for information, deadlines, and opportunities to do the actual assigned work.

Why didn't you respond to my email?

There are two reasons why. One, you didn't follow our email etiquette guidelines. Remember, any email outside of those guidelines will not get a response (or will get a sassy response back with no answer to your question). Or two, you did follow the email etiquette guidelines, but I'm swamped and overloaded right now. If it's urgent, please talk to me at the end of class and we can resolve it, otherwise, hang tight and I'll get to it as soon as I can.

EMAIL ETIQUETTE GUIDELINES REMINDER:

  • The subject line specifies the purpose of the email and is polite

  • The email begins with a greeting (Dear, Good Morning, etc.).

  • The body of the email uses capital letters where necessary and complete sentences plus is polite.

  • The email is signed off by you (Sincerely, Have a nice day, etc.).

Can I get some extra help?

Absolutely. The best time to check in with me is after class (I will write you a pass!) and we can schedule a time that works best for both of us to meet up and get you the help you need.

When will I know my grade?

You will know your grade once all of the grades have been put into Canvas. If you clicked submit on Canvas, I have it. If you turned your assignment into the in box for your class period, I have it. Now, be patient, I'm grading as quickly as possible. If you turned an assignment in late a zero will be put in the grade book and stay there until I get a chance to look at it. All work turned in on time has first priority, so just a heads up, your zero might stay there for awhile. Avoid this by simply turning your work in on time.
